Typically valuing a business for divorce is no different from a certified business appraisal for any purpose.  However, there is a problem with this practice when the subject business is very small.

The problem is that generally, most professional business appraisers’ fee for service are far beyond what the divorcing couple can afford. For this reason, I have developed a low-cost non-certified business valuation report that is brief and easily understandable by the husband, the wife and their respective attorneys. Which is to say, a valuation report that can reasonably be expected to lead to an out-of-court settlement.
